A love affair with Wood
Made loves wood, and from an early age this passion sparked a strong desire to work with unloved, discarded and forgotten dead wood. He is adamant about not chopping down living trees, instead he uproots dead stumps and root systems to create organic sculptures and artworks. He started off working in hospitality and in 2003 a trip to Java inspired him to pick up dead and discarded wood and envision forms and sculptures hidden within the organic shapes. He decided to give up a career in restaurants and hotels to pursue his passion. With a natural feeling, empathy and talent for wood carving this developed quickly into a new vocation and by 2008 he had established a market for his work in N. America, Europe and Singapore. From his workshop and Gallery in Kuta, he employs up to two dozen or more local craftsmen to produce sculptures and furniture that are displayed in the Gallery, on the website, and sold internationally, gracing residential and hotel projects worldwide.
